    The Critical Preschool Years

Children under six have extraordinary powers of mind. They take in their environment; the physical space, the language and movements of adults and other children with what Maria Montessori called the “absorbent mind”. The absorbent mind is at its peak receptivity during the preschool years.

    The Montessori Method

Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1953) was the pioneering Italian educator and physician who founded the Montessori Method. She based this method on her philosophy that children need an environment in which they can explore and experience freely. She believed that children should be given the opportunity to develop naturally at their own level of ability and interest.

Montessori offers a prepared environment, which promotes an exciting and stimulating approach to academics and personal growth. Mixed-age groups provide opportunities for peer learning/teaching and foster social development and responsibility.

This environment creates an atmosphere whereby all facets of the whole child are developed. These include emotional well being, social skills, academics and personal achievement. As a result, the child becomes confident and has the ability to achieve success through the use of the prepared materials.
    Learn Through Play

Play enhances every domain of a child’s development. Play, more than any other activity, fuels healthy development of children.

Play requires the child to make choices
